Memories fade, but as I recall John lived in the Claremont house shared by Pat Mulcahy, Kevin Peter and myself in 1973-74. The 4 of us split into 2 crews, one crew would cook and the other would clean up. John and I were paired. John graduated from the same high school that I did, probably 1 year earlier; I’d guess he graduated in 1968. We had 2 dogs in the house, Fatso Bob and Nemo. Fatso Bob was a good natured sort and Nemo was thinner and perhaps a bit hyper. I think that John and I came back to the house one day after practice to find Nemo up on the kitchen counter with a cabinet door open and his head inside a 5 pound bag of sugar. John made comments as to how a dog could look so innocent with his head caked in sugar. He was a calming influence to me and I miss him.
I haven't yet found John's time, but I WILL. Here's a funny response to a search: “For what it's worth, the searches did surface a John Carter Freemuth (1950–2020) who was a serious recreational runner — he reportedly ran across the Grand Canyon, was connected to Pomona College and Claremont, and lived in San Diego at points in his life. If that's the person you're after, his finishing time still isn't anywhere in the public record I can reach.”
